Vacancy : Bookkeeper

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced bookkeeper to join Bennett Verby, one of the largest multi-disciplinary independent accountancy practices within the North of England.

We will provide you with in-house training to support you in your new role. You will join a professional and highly respected team where hard work and commitment are rewarded.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Maintaining Sales/Purchase ledger
  • Taking accounts up to trial balance
  • Communicating effectively with HMRC
  • Responding professionally and promptly to client queries
  • Willingness to travel to clients’ premises
  • Willingness to undertake bookkeeping tasks at clients’ premises

Qualifications:

  • Ideally AAT qualified
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a bookkeeping role

You will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A good working knowledge of Sage 50
  • A good knowledge of VAT and the ability to apply VAT rules and regulations
  • Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Xero would be advantageous

In addition:

  • Hold a clean UK driving licence and access to a car
  • Be able to work well within a team
  • Committed to your own professional development and a willingness to adapt as the department grows
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels and with clients
  • Work to deadlines
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills

Working week

Monday-Thursday 8.30am — 5.30pm
Friday 8.30am — 4.30pm
(38.5 hours, full time)

Salary

£18,000 to £24,000, dependent on experience

Vacancy: Accounts & Audit Semi Senior (3 vacancies)

Location: Stockport

Job type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time – 38 Hours per week (8:30 – 5:15 Mon – Thu, 8:30 – 4:30 Fri)

We are currently looking for Accounts & Audit Semi-seniors capable of completing assignments from start to finish with minimal supervision.

Person Specification:

You will either be AAT qualified or qualified by experience, with minimum three years’ proven practice experience within a small to medium sized practice, and be IT proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, Sage, Xero and Quickbooks.

You will be experienced in the preparation of financial statements for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies and will have a basic knowledge of tax compliance issues. Experience of Audit work, preparation of cashflow forecasts, business plans, and the preparation of management accounts would also be an advantage.

We are looking for candidates with excellent interpersonal, planning and organisational skills and the ability to impress and work well with our clients. You will be a team player with a passion for your profession. Full clean driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Duties will include:

  • Preparing management accounts and year end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Liaising with clients generally to resolve queries
  • Ensuring all assignments are completed within the allocated budget and to deadlines
  • Drafting Corporation Tax computations and liaising with our tax department
